Swords of Legends - Episode 1 Moments

Episode Consultant: Jaehyus

If you made notes last time, you will remember the intro of the show, leading us to the end of the road in Wu Meng valley, to a small village with the temple of Goddess Nuwa, who sealed the Sword of Burning Solitude into the ice cave, leaving the task of guarding it to a tribe.
Small villages in fruitful valleys do not have only goats, cherry trees and tasty corn, but also some magical technology. In Nuwa's temple you can skyphone VIPs outside the village. But the story starts to unfold, so time to put belts on.

The shaman of the temple, Xiuning informs her Granny, who is in Youdu (a realm one step closer to the goddess, as her statue there is much larger), what is the major issue of the celestial seal: it is not for ever. What's more, the protection of Wu Meng valley will be destroyed by the sword at the very moment it gets free. An emissary or someone called Reverend Ziyin from Kunlun Mountain should come immediately to solve the crisis.Wait a minute. She said Kunlun Mountain? The Shaman is worried, but Granny ask her to be patient, as within just one day Granny will send the saviour, Feng Guangmo.
In this very moment a strange shadow appears: it's a boy. Her son actually, called Yunxi. He is a nice little boy, obviously being aware of secret passageways of the temple. He is not the only child in the village though, which is understandable in a village protected by gods. I have a bad feeling already, seeing all these children playing there and having fun.
The village is protected by an energy field, however animals may come and go. Just like that snow-white little fox he meets by the lake.
It talks, of course. And shows him a secret way to sneak out of the protected area. Bad fox. Oh my, why do these CGI animals have to be always so last century? To show us how good the live actors and actresses look? Even if they are really good-looking, I'd love to see a cute little fox with more life in its eyes...Anyway, it's a bit scared by Yunxi, and flees, with the boy follow. It runs to a tree for protection, calling it Grandpa. But he sleeps. Obviously. I still have some issue with these family ties...
We switch suddenly to the higher places of Youdu, where a nice man gives a gift to her sister, to ease her pain about his leaving her. Come on, even when you are smiling so brightly, it is hard to explain to a little girl, why you leave her for the sake of the world.
Back in the forest Yunxi finally catches the fox, that is terrified. Maybe is it because of the huge crazy bear behind the boy? He tries to run, with the fox in his arms, but he cannot hide. After a short chase he falls, and the fox gets braver, jumping on the bear. Regretfully it's too small, end up against a tree, but luckily another gentleman in white appears, with some magic, driving the bear away by putting some metal balls into its nose.
Back to the Shaman, she welcomes Feng Guangmo by commenting his being late with icy words. She obviously waited the Kunlun team. He wears a blue mask, which reminds me of the blue phoenix. It must have been the goddess back then. Guangmo made a detour - for three months. Tasting the world. Whatever, she is angry, but he is the only available magician to support her in resealing the SBS.
Yunxi chats with the man in white, giving him details about the way into the valley. He is quite interested, saying he is a healer, searching for medications for his family. The boy even explains that the boundaries of the village will be much stronger soon. You can hear the cogwheels turning in Big Brother's head already. Then he leaves, Yunxi is headed back to the village, but runs into Guangmo at the other side of the passage. He recognises his mother's shaman necklace. They make friends too in a minute, having a common secret about Yunxi's adventures and Guangmo's drinking. He can tell tales about the world, the sea, the people - no wonder Yunxi wants to see the world too.
The hawk (CGI) arrives at Youdu High Temple - and suddenly everybody gets the info, that the seal is so weak, that it must be re-closed immediately, ahead of schedule. The Shaman at Guangmo start the process without delay. No surprise, the man in white appears above the village, and in the next moment masked vigilantes attack the village with bombs. The protection won't hold, as the energy is used by the Shaman to seal the most dangerous SBS. Granny gets a field report too, and she is most worried about the others. No wonder. The whole village gets blown up. Who mentioned that he made bombs? That bastard in white.
The village is massacred. Even old Grandpa (Xiuning’s father? Then why is Granny in Youdu? - This may be some honorable title), who is trying to protect Yunxi. The leader of the masked attackers drags the boy into the temple, to get his mum to stop the sealing process. Everybody wants the sword then.
The Shaman has a strange idea. She transfers the evil spirit of the SBS into her son. Hoping he will survive and be saved the the sword. Funny idea. SBS was designed to destroy the whole world...Well, hope dies last. Yunxi gets a nice red line on his forehead, and her magic brings him out of the temple, while his mum gets frozen by her magic (after hiding a small fire ball - her soul - into her staff), with all the intruders too, SBS gets free, just to fly after Yunxi. Poor Guangmo gets a big hit, together with the leader of the black masks.
Qingxue, his little sister feels immediately, that something went wrong, as she still has the magical bracelet of her brother. Granny also lies to her, not letting her go and find him, and sends her away. But Qingxue is indeed clever. Using her map she sneaks out of her home, just like Yunxi. Just to meet up another man, the third one in a row from Yunxi's unlucky day at the gates of Youdu. The men, who saved Yunxi from the village (of course with the sword) is actually Reverend Ziyin from Kunlun Mountain. Poor boy has already an attack, having a shock, probably fever and who knows what. All because of SBS. Qingxue can set up a diagnose with a blink of her wonderful eyes, and what's more, even ease the pain of Yunxi. They can enter the caves at last.
But the careless grown-ups start a fight immediately over the sword, only mentioning that Yunxi is practically in grave danger. Granny starts negotiating, and she finally wins. Ziyin hands over the sword.
Yunxi and Qingxue chat at the gardens, and we must find out the most disturbing result of the day, Yunxi has forgotten everything: Guangmo, the village, even his mother. And about the evil sword too. They are so sweet together, and he even makes her a clay doll as a gift. Later Granny has the task to give an explanation for Yunxi about everything. She starts a healing process with the Youdu elders, but the evil spirit takes over the boy's body. The elders want to her finish him. After a moment of hesitation the spirit gets free, and only Ziyin can stop it. He really cares for the boy, and assuming that Granny and the enders would easily kill Yunxi to save the world, he takes him - and the sword - away. Flying.
Yunxi wakes up in Kunlun, in the Heavenly Walled City (Tianyong) after 7 days, in a boy's room. He is Lingyue, a disciple of Ziyin. Who is actually makes great efforts together with another Reverend to find a cure for Yunxi, and a solution for SBS. We already see other disciplines, or elders, who knows yet. Regretfully the solution they find is only temporary, and it will surely have further influence - bad ones - on the boy. However, Ziyin wants to give the boy a chance to live on, and he decides to take him as his apprentice too. He is a great sword master, as we hear from Granny, so he might have a chance, which means life for Yunxi.
He takes him to foster parents, as he is pushed by the other Reverend not to keep Yunxi in Kunlun. But it lasts only a minute. The red mark on Yunxi's forehead starts fuming and burning again, he cannot just leave him to endanger the innocent villagers. They head back to Kunlun, and he stays as an apprentice. New life comes with a new name. He will be Baili Tusu from now on. Tusu is some sort of grass. Baili means "to exterminate evil forces and awaken someone's soul." Of course. Nomen est omen.
They start with their magical lessons, but they soon find out, that Tusu's totem animal is a Chongming bird (for me it looks like the fire phoenix from the very beginning). Tusu is still full of secrets.

P.s.
Taking into consideration, that only half of the main characters have been introduced in this first ep, we still have surprises ahead. I'm not happy about Yunxi's mother. With all those men around there should have been another solution. Though it might result the cancellation of the show, and never reaching ep 8. And we cannot accept that, right?
She is frozen. There is still hope then, and enough time for Tusu to grow up, get stronger and save her. Jiayou, Tusu.
